измайловский / Izmailovsky Market

A visit to Izmailovsky Market, located north-east of Moscow is the perfect idea to have a glimpse over Russian history. Not far from the metro station Partizanskaya this market offers a broad array of memorabilia dating back to Soviet times, which are to be found on the stalls lining an area bordering the Ismainovo Kremlin .
Forget the exclusive shopping malls and all the expensive designer clothes you can buy there.

Izmailovsky Market is the perfect place to take home a bite of Russia. Besides matrioshkas and busby fur hat, many are the stall offering traditional Russian outfits, samovars and antiquities of the Soviet era. Nostalgics of the U.R.R.S. will not be disappointed while strolling around the market. Stall-holders seem quite inflexible when it comes to the price, but haggling is not forbidden and reductions possible.
While browsing a never-ending display of pins, which used to decorate the unifroms of Soviet soldiers I saw one of the vendors taking a leather folder out of his bag. Inside a collection of original posters celebrating the achiements of the Soviet Union. If interested, be prepared to open your wallet wide open.
Last but not least traditional Russian red-gold wooden items are showcased on many stands.

We vividly recommend you to visit the Izmailovsky market at the week-end as many of the stalls are closed on other days. What is more the chances are that you can enjoy shashliks. The scent of flash popping on the charcoal will definitely tantalise you.
A visit to the adjacent Ismanovo Kremlin with its multi-colored towers reminding the atmosphere of Alice in Wonderalnd and the homonymous park would be the perfect conclusion to this excursion.
