Anti-cafe ZIFERBLAT

If you are in Moscow you can walk into the Ziferblat café in the fashionable Tverskaya neighborhood and grab a coffee or tea. Perhaps you may sit down on one of the most comfortable armchairs, pull out your lap top and check your e-mails on the Wi-Fi network. Feeling a little hungry? There is some food in the cabinet like traditional cookies so you can help yourself.

And how much all this cost? Well, the costs is 2 rubles per minute so, if you spend, say, an hour there, it will cost you 120 rubles. And if you stay for more than four hours there is no additional cost. Hence, the maximum amount that someone pays is 480 rubles per day.

You see, Ziferblat café might look like a traditional café or coffee shop but it’s not. It’s an “anti-café”. Customers are welcome to come in and do whatever they like with the facilities, as long as they pay while they are there. The atmosphere is suitable for both studying and relaxing and the staff more than happy and willing to welcome people and help them.

In today's video you won't just hear what we have to say about the place - find out what its creator thinks!

Golubka

Good evening Friendly People,

My family was visiting me in Moscow and we went to Novodevichy Women's Monastery, which is very beautiful. Walking to the Monastery we came across a restaurant and cafetaria called Golubka and grabbed a cup of coffee and sweets there. A friendly atmosphere for sure, with not too expensive products. Cafe and Bar Bilingua

Here we have another extremely interesting and atmospheric place! You can't really say what it is, as this place contains a cafe, a bookstore, a bar and a nice little stage as well. I think they made the whole complex which is full of nooks and crannies something really special. It doesn't matter if you just want to have a coffee, attend a literary event, an exhibition or a concert, you'll probably find something convenient. There are often concerts of young Russian groups that are for free or very inexpensive. The music varies from  rock to punk over jazz and Latin, world and ethno. The impressionable paintings in the cafe were specially made for its opening.

Mr. Ziferblat Meetin- "Anticafé"

Here I interviewed the manager of Ziferblat,  Konstantin Lyovushkin; that was the fist so-called "Anticafé" in Russia and opend arround one year ago. Even though the name "Anticafé" became quite common now, it is something that was created later and the founders dissociate strictly from it. They call themselves and the system of paying "Open Space" which has a more positive connotation. The creation of Ziferblat was followed by a boom of "Anticafés" which still continues.  Here you have the link to their website .

„Free Labs Anticafé“- The place to be in Moscow!

Located in an beautiful but not-yet-renovated building from the 19th century, it seduces with its ancient charm. The catching think is that the leaders of the project to do the renovation on their own and you can see the work process.  The prize is 100r per hour. info kontakte
