Gorky House

Previously the mansion of the wealty banker Ryabushinsky, was a present to the writer Maxim Gorky from Stalin.

Gorky felt the house was too much for him, he preferred more a simple lifestyle; for this reason he just stayed here for not so many years, from 1931 to 1936, after having spent several years of his life in Italy, in Sorrento.

That’s why you can see in his bedroom and other parts of the house a lot of beautiful paintings of the seaside city.

All the house is in Art Nouveau style, and it’s built by the architect Fyodor Shektel.
The theme of the house is the sea, so when you enter you will see staircases like waves, columns with jellyfishes, and palms on the ceiling, like in a house under the water.

The house is right in the center of the city, but in a rather quiet part.
You can see the studio of the writer, with a collection of journals he was collaborating with.

The entrance is for free.
